news.deviantart.com/article/42… news.deviantart.com/article/42… news.deviantart.com/article/42…It is hard for an artist to stay motivated while you receive not so much feedback. deviantART is a great site where artists get the chance to receive ánd give comments and criticism on eachothers work. It is a community where give and get is the most important thing. If you never comment on other people's work, it will be harder for you yourself to get comments.
The deviantART system is a hard world to begin in. You need friends, that is the most important thing. If you want to be known, you need connections. In the end, the hunger for friends and relations mostly results in spamming comments on other people's work, news items and slamming the +fav button. A lot of people will use +fav as that extra function to get noticed on your "new messages" list, hoping to get a +fav or +watch in return.
This system of watch-and-be-watched is a nice system for those who are watched by loads of people. Once you've established yourself as a great artist within the community, your popularity will keep rising, and the only thing you have to do for it is to stay active. The +favs, +loves, +watches, +collects and comments will stream to your deviant(ion)pages with a steadily increasing speed.
This is also a thing that happens too often with the Daily Deviations. Let's be clear: I love the DD function and I think it is one of the best ways to get extra publicity for outstanding work of art. But it still happens too often that very big artists get featured, while small, relatively unknown artists stay out of sight. I think there are not enough people who consider to suggest a piece of art from an unkown artist. Do your friend a pleasure, suggest his piece of art that you truly like!
The hardest part at deviantART is getting known. Please people; do not spam useless comments on all new deviations in your inbox. Do not smash the +fav-button for every piece you like just a little bit. Only +fav your favourite works, because that is where the name has come from in the end. I really can not stand to see unoriginal new work from very big artists get dozens of +favs just because it comes from that artist. Give every new piece of art a fresh look, with the older pieces in mind.
Give new artists with great potential a boost by featuring their art. Maybe it is not so good as that huge artist you just visited, but an artist can and will learn. For that huge artist your feature and +fav will not be a big deal. He/she already has got hundreds or thousands. But for that small artist, your feature can make a big difference. It will be a ego-boost, an extra shot of motivation! If you want to get more known, make great and original art. Feature pieces of art you truly like, not every piece of that already well-known artist.
Thank you for reading. I hope this will make a difference. If we all stand for things like this, everyone will become better out of it. Even that well-known artist, who now understands he needs to make more original art. :]
FeaturesOfcourse after these hards words I can not just walk away. I have to feature some unknown artists. Don't see these featured deviations as the best work you will see. Look at it as art from great artists with potential. Give them a chance.
I have a whole lot of great artists in my +watchlist. They all are brilliant minds and make amazing, original art. The problem is that they lack support and popularity from the community. As we know now, it is hard to get known in here in a "fair" way. These artists are nót the +fav-spamming
Oh that's a great piece !!! type. They do their best and wait with great patience until they will get featured, discovered or suggested for a DD.
